Functions and Features
The following is a list of features that are standard on all Series FS-500 and FS-700 Controllers
Controlled Acceleration -An adjustable function that allows smooth acceleration on vehicles of varying weights and speeds.
See Potentiometer Adjustments below.
Current Limit - An adjustable function that renders self-protection to the control and the traction motor.
See Potentiometer Adjustments below.
Thermal Protection - A protection circuit that gradually reduces current limit, if needed, to maintain rated component temperature.
Accelerator Volts Hold Off - This feature assures that the control is calling for low speed operation at start up.
Plug Braking - (Option) An adjustable function that allows smooth braking on vehicles of varying weights and speeds.
High Frequency Operation - This feature provides oscillation frequency 15 KHZ. The high oscillation rate allows for quieter operation, higher average motor current with lower peak motor currents, less ripple current at the motor, and less motor heating.
Reversed Battery Protection – (With Line Contactor and Diode) This function disables the operation of the control if the battery connections are reversed.
Low Voltage
The control is designed for use down to the following voltages:
12V:7V cutout
24/36V:16V cutout
36V:19V cutout
36/48V:19V cutout
48V:25V cutout
The control will not operate when the cutout voltage is reached.

Installation Tips:
For proper operation, use a heat transfer compound between the STAR control and the mounting plate on the truck.Be sure to apply a very thin coating.Excess will cause air pockets, which will not allow proper heat transfer.
Available from Flight Systems Industrial Products: (FSIP P/N:43-8012-30)
Make certain all power connections are secure.Improper connections will cause heat and could destroy the control.
Warranty and Service
This product is covered by a 12-month warranty, not to exceed 18 months from shipment.Worldwide technical assistance and service are available from local GE and FSIP representatives.
Potentiometer Adjustment.
Current Limit(CL) – Adjust potentiometer CW (clockwise) to increase maximum current limit. The current is adjustable from 50% to 100% of specified limit.
Controlled Acceleration (CA) – Adjust potentiometer CW to increase acceleration ramp time.Caution must be taken in setting CA too short for safety of vehicle operator. The acceleration ramp is adjustable from .25 to 1.5 seconds.
Plugging Adjustment (PL) – Adjust potentiometer CW to increase intensity of plugging.Be sure when setting plugging is set to allow a smooth forward to reverse transition.Caution must be taken to make sure plugging is not set too harsh, this could cause the driver to be thrown from vehicle. Plugging current is adjustable from 50% to 100% of specified limit.
